Science Experiments

Right now for science we are studying geology.  To make things more interesting, I found some edible activities for each of the rock types.  Rachael wrote about our experiments:

Science
     Experiments
Two days ago and last Thursday we made science experiments. On Thursday we did volcanoes. The lava was made of corn syrup and red food coloring.
When Kennadee and I put the syrup on our volcano it went on one side because we couldn’t get it on the very top of the volcano.
On Monday we made cookies and had to make them look like sedimentary rocks. When we put them in the oven one of the cookies EXPLODED. The one that exploded was full of red sprinkles. The cookie that exploded was Rielly’s (at least that is what we think).

Donkey Basketball

The White River FFA sponsored a donkey basketball game as a fundraiser.  Even though the weather was terrible that night, lots of people showed up to participate and watch.  Here is Vic's story about the game:

Donkey Basketball
The donkey basketball was so funny. Most of the people riding the donkeys got bucked off.  I think it was the funniest thing I have ever seen in my whole life. One of the funniest parts was when Malania got bucked off and the donkey drug her. It was hilarious. I can’t wait untill next year when all of the eighth graders ride them. I'll see you next time, donkey basketball!

Bake Sale for Alice

Since Alice, our custodian has had so many health issues, we are hosting a bake sale tomorrow to help her out.  Vic made this notice:

Alice Lacovara
  Bake Sale
The bake sale will be on February 9 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. in the school lobby. For Alice Lacovara.

Accelerated Reader Party

Mrs. Reid was in charge of the Accelerated Reader party for 2nd quarter.  All of the grade school kids except for two made 100%.  She had the kids bring things with wheels so that they could ride in the parking lot.  It was supposed to be a beautiful day.  Since it turned out windy and cold, Mrs. Maynard said the kids could use the Blue Gym instead.  How fun is that?
Here is Braedon's report on the party:

The elementary school had an AR party 1/17/12! For those of you that do not know what AR is it is when everyone who reads a book that is AR and is worth at least ½ of a point get points if you get 60% 70% 80% 90% or 100% you get the points and you have a goal to see if you finish your AR before the quarter ends.

All of the elementary finished their goal and made it to the AR party.  What we did at the AR party is we brought our bikes scooters roller skates or skate boards to the blue gym an rode them in there.

Since my whole class made 100%, I had to wear my roller skates to school one day.  Luckily, I didn't fall down.

Sledding

When our school was built, someone got the great idea to put the football field on a hill behind the school.  The hill is right outside the grade school door.  When we finally got some snow a week or two ago, we decided to let the kids bring sleds or snowboards to school.  They had a great time sledding at recess.  Here is what Rachael had to say about sledding:

For school we could bring our sleds to school, and we would slide down the football field. It was very fun, I went so fast that I ran into an ice-burg, and it hurt really bad, and I am very sore. But the best part was that I got to be with my friends. And that is the story when I got to go sledding at school.
