Some of the Lund kids participated in Public Lands Day.  Kaycee wrote about this fun opportunity.

National Public Lands Day

On Saturday we went to the BLM.  First we got question papers and pens.  Then we went into a room and went to a station.  We got to see arrows and animal tracks.  We also got to see Smoky Bear.
The coolest thing we got to do is shoot water out of a hose and climb in a fire truck and press buttons that made cool sounds. We also got to sit in the seats which you could make the seats go up and down. I liked when we had to hold a heavy backpack and a chainsaw.  It was awesome.
After we all got a chance to hold the chainsaw and backpack we went through a line of offices then came to a opening and sat down to eat the great food they had. After that we got ice cream at Economy Drug. That was some real good ice cream they had and that was the field trip we took.
Wyatt has written an opinion piece about the open road race that takes place in our town.

SILVER STATE CHALLENGE
The Silver State Racing Challenge affects the community by shutting down the highway so people can’t push cows and every year someone gets hurt or dies.
I think we can fix this problem by making safer cars and making sure who’s driving can get out of the car in time or if they die on impact make better helmets and gear.

There have been 3 or 4 times someone has died.  Like this year someone burned to death.   Here are the years people have died: 2014 2012 2010.  My mom says “You would think they would stop doing the races because so many people have died.” Justin says, “It’s cool watching, but it’s very dangerous.”  He thinks they should not stop the race, they just need better equipment.

Our school is participating in Box Tops for Education.  Reagan D. has written a post about how this program works.

We are collecting box tops for our school and they are worth ten cents each. When we turn in the box tops we get yellow slips.  Oh and when we get yellow slips we get to get in the prize box or we can get a card and are choices are a desk pass and a list eraser.

We bring the box tops in to the office and put it in a box and they count the box tops and they see if they have expired. Then they send the box tops to General Mills in Minnesota. Then the company sends a check to the school and the teachers can use the money for Moby max and Accelerated Reader.

Back to School Night

Reagan D. wrote about our back to school night and potluck:

Lund school had an open house. We ate hot dogs , hamburgers ,cookies, salad, brown, chips, pasta, and it was so good. Then  me, Sara, and Haylee they both sat with me. Then after we were done eating we went down to the playground and  we played on the monkey bars, the slide, and on the swings. We stayed down there until it was time to go home.

Destry has written a piece about our weekly Spanish class, which is taught by Mrs. Griffin.

We are learning new Spanish words in Spanish class.
Like red is rojo;  purple is violet .
Wyatt and Jackson are good at Spanish.
I am kind of good at it, but not that much.

Justin is really good too.  Hyrum is good also.  Dylan is awesome.
Anyway we are awesome at Spanish. I think we will all

Get an A at Spanish. Spanish is cool.  I love Spanish.
The elementary teachers and Mrs. Farnsworth spent two weeks learning a new language program called Spalding.  Haylee has written about how our class is doing the program.

This year in grade school we are doing Spalding. We learn phonograms and rules for letters. We also do different kinds of sentences too.

Other things we do is write in our writing notebooks. We do spelling. We do a lot of cursive with our writing.

A couple other things we do are review our phonograms by writing them. We do practicing by writing them in our writing notebooks and grading them ourselves. We also do tests to see if we know our phonograms. That’s what we do with Spalding.
Mr. Hedges has started a new program called Family Lunch.  On the first Monday of the month, parents can eat lunch with their kids in the lunchroom.  Justin has written about the program.

Family Lunch

On September 8 the moms and dads came if they could to lunch at 11:30. My mom came, but my dad was at work.

In our class   6/14 moms or dads came. Out of all the classes 10 parents came, but some brothers and sisters are in different classes.
This quarter we are studying weather for science.  Isabelle has written about one part of our study, which is keeping weather notebooks.

Science /Weather note book

For science we are doing weather note books.  Every day we fill out our note books. In the weather note books we put the date, sky appearance, the wind, precipitation, and temperature.  On every Thursday Mrs. Christensen checks our note books. Mrs. Christensen grades it on neatness and if you complete it every day. During the weekends we take the weather notebooks home and do them. The next Thursday she checks it again and gives us our grades.
We have had some changes in our school staff this year.  Reagan S.  has interviewed our new staff and written about them.

We have 3 new teachers. One of them is Mr. Ebbink.
Mr. Ebbink teaches English, social studies, and journalism in the high school.
He is the new Jr. High volleyball coach.
He knows how to speak Chinese.

Connie is not completely new but now instead of just music, she also teaches P.E.
Now computer class is a special, so Connie teaches specials 3 days a week.

Mr. Hedges is the new principal.
He does on line classes.
His favorite place to teach is Lund.
He has been teaching for 17 years.
His favorite thing to do is spend time with his family.

Those are the three new teachers and their information.

I hope everyone has a fun  school year!
We have spent our social studies time so far this year studying the Constitution since September 17 is Constitution Day.  This week we have come up with some laws that we think would be good for our class and we have made a class constitution.  Wyatt has written about the experience:

      The Constitution

This year we are making a constitution for our class. It has laws and ways to help out people with math and stuff. I think the best one is the bullying; I made it :D. I like when we make the laws and I get to talk British :P. At recesses  we make other parts sometimes. Sometimes people mess around and it makes me mad D:
Our schedule is a lot different than it was last year.  Jackson has written a piece to let you know what our day is like.

School Schedule
When we get to school we go to recess. When we get back we go straight to specials. When we get back we do spelling and right after, we do writing. Then we read for 30 min then we go to lunch.

After  lunch recess we have story time. Right  after story time we do math then go to read to the 1st graders. When we go back we do social studies. Right after social studies we go to recess. When we came back we do science then finally went home.

My class loves the Edmodo website.  Kaycee has written about the things we use it for.

About Edmodo
First you login and you make up a password.
If you can’t make up a password your teacher will give you one. Once you login you can send notes only to the class or your teacher. You can post pictures and videos. The teacher can also post assignments and games. You can also talk with your teacher about assignments. The fun thing is that you can get a profile picture and joke around with the class. Also you get to post pictures of a trip or a vacation though you don’t have to. Also there’s a bad thing about Edmodo if you lose your password you have to find a new one. Though that doesn’t usually happen.  If you do login to Edmodo I hope you have a great time posting pictures and videos. Also joking around with friends and doing assignments that your teacher posts. So have a great time  going on to Edmodo and posting fun stuff.

This year my class is spending time each day reading with the first graders.  Sara wrote about the experience...

Reading with the first graders is the best thing in school so far. If you don’t have a job then you can go and read with them. I like to read with them a lot; it’s so fun.
 The first time I had a job so I couldn’t go. The next day I checked if I had a job and. . . . I did.
So the next I checked and then finally I didn’t have a job.
I was so excited. To go and read with them. When we got to their classroom the first graders
were finishing up with Math. Then the first graders picked who they wanted to be with. Jessie Hooley and Sariah picked me.
The first graders picked out what book we wanted and then we read it to them.
Then after about an hour we would go back to our class. Before we left, the first graders said thank you, and that was the best time.
