We have started a new program in our room.  Please feel free to join us on Thursdays at 9:30 AM.  Haylee has written about it.

This year in Mrs. Christensen’s class we are doing an elocution. We found the idea in a book called The Teachers Funeral. In the book they did it every Friday. So we do it every Thursday.

I’m  doing this blog piece for the elocution. Last week  we had some of the high schoolers came in to watch us do it. We do it every week.

This week we have to do three things. They are Language, Reading, and Writing. Last week we only had Reading and Writing. Language is new this week. That’s what we do for elocution.

Haylee has written a piece about last month's book club competition.

Last month for book clubs we had four groups. We had Ellis Island, If you lived among the Cherokee, Tornados, and Phoebe the spy. Those are the books we did.

When we take our A.R. tests we see how many points ad up. The winning book was Ellis Island. They got smelly pencils. They were Reagan S., Bailey, Kaycee, and Haylee.

That’s  what we did for book club.
We just finished reading Eating the Plates for story time.  Destry wrote a review of the book.

We learned about how the pilgrims survived in the promised land. They had no chairs they had to make chairs out of wood it was hard work and they had to make their own houses by themselves.  The kids had to sleep on the table if the bed was not big enough.
The mom and dad got to sleep on the bed though

And the children had to stand when a lade was in the room and they ate in front of the fire place in the summer and in the winter but in the summer wouldn’t that be really hot and it is pretty cool how they cook their food over the fire place it was a cool book but it a long time to read and there was also the baby’s crib was made out of wood that would hurt my back. They might have put blanket in the crib.

Justin wrote about the recent hike that the Webelos Scouts took with Mrs. Maynard:

Webelos Scout hike                                          10/8/14

On the 7th the Webelos scout group went to the Pot Holes.
We had to get a fire going with a striker and pocket knife.

We had to get our dinner going on our fire. After we did that we walked from there back to the school. It was a tiring walk, but it was fun.

The kids are enjoying soccer season.  Read this post by Haylee to learn more.

This last Saturday the U-11 team played soccer in Ely. We played the color purple team. They were easy to play.

We scored 5 points. They scored 1 point.  We only had two subs, and they had five subs. We still killed them with that many subs.

Jackson scored one point. Justin scored two points. Makenna scored one point. Kasen scored one point. That’s what we did for our soccer game.
Since we have been studying weather, the kids were pretty fascinated with the flooding that happened two weekends ago.  Justin wrote a piece about that topic.

         Flooding

The flooding from hurricane Norbert and Odilie cause California, Arizona and Nevada to flood a lot. Over 400,000,000 people without power.  2 people have died. Hotels completely destroyed. Here all the rain that we have got is all because of that hurricane madness. The roads have collapsed, cars floating away. How would you like to be swept away by water? So when a rain storm hits, make sure to have a flashlight or a candle nearby.
Haylee has written a piece about the Student of the Week program at both the high school and elementary sides of our school.  Feel free to come up and see the displays.

This year we are doing student of the week. It was the leadership class’s idea. Sarah Christensen does the Elementary student of the week. Preston Forester does the high school student of the week.

Student of the week is every week. We started the first week of school. It is the fifth week of school. So we have had five student of the week.

The students of the week for Elementary have been Makenna, Hayden H., Isabelle, Parker Erekson, and Nathan. For the high school side it has been Keaton, Aspen, Kelton, Sarah, and Gabe. That’s who has been the student of the week.
